example of medical negligence
W.K
Achala Priyadarshani's left hand was
amputated on the 22nd January 2013
at the General Hospital, Colombo.
She is currently a Final Year student
at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.
She was left-handed and
it was this hand that was amputated.
Achala
was admitted to the Matara Hospital on 17th January 2013 for a
fracture.
Due to the negligence of the medical staff of the
Matara
hospital when bandaging her arm for the FRACTURE,
the blood circulation
to her arm ceased and fatally damaged
the nerves in her left arm.
Consequently she was transferred
to the General Hospital, Colombo where
her left arm was amputated.
This is one example of medical negligence that occurs frequently in state-paid hospitals.
