Less than one week after posting official pregnancy photos on social media showing off her massive baby bump, Shakira and her boyfriend, Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique, have welcomed a baby boy named Milan
Piqué Mebarak.
The Colombian superstar and first-time mother announced the baby's arrival on her official website and her Facebook page.
The statement said that their bundle of joy arrived on Jan. 22 at 9:36 p.m. in Barcelona, weight 6 lbs. and 6 oz.
The
announcement, which said that mother and child "are in excellent
health," also added insight to their choice of name. "The name Milan
(pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in
Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification," the
statement continued. "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member
of FC Barcelona at birth."
The baby news comes just
hours after Shakira hinted that her delivery was imminent. "I'd like to
ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day
of my life," Shakira tweeted on Tuesday.
According
to various reports, Shakira delivered via caesarian section which she
scheduled to take place on the 22 as a way of uniting their birthdays;
Shakira and Gerard were born on Feb. 2.
